A few NYC Questions

A few NYC Questions for a first timer:
-Is the Columbus Day parade a big deal?
-Is the ice skating rink open in central park in october?
-How is the weather in October (cold, cool, rainy, windy, warm during day, cool at night)?
Thanks!

-Is the Columbus Day parade a big deal?
Yes, in the sense that it will shut down the avenue and could be fun to watch for a while. A few blocks on either side of the parade and you won't even know it's going on.

-Is the ice skating rink open in central park in october?
Not sure. You can probably check the schedule at the Central Park website.

-How is the weather in October (cold, cool, rainy, windy, warm during day, cool at night)?
All of those things. Mainly nice during the day -- upper 60's, I'd guess.

-Is the Columbus Day parade a big deal?
Not unless you're Italian, and even then maybe not.

-Is the ice skating rink open in central park in october?
Which rink? The Central Park rink opens in November, I don't think Rock Center is open in Oct. either.

-How is the weather in October (cold, cool, rainy, windy, warm during day, cool at night)?
Best month for weather, cool, crisp air.

October is a nice month. I usually go up in early Nov., and it's still pretty nice temps and some of the leaves are still on the trees in Central Park.

The Columbus day parade is fun. Go to the Metropolitan museum and watch from the steps.

The website for the Wollman Rink (the preferred one) says Oct. but doesn't mentione when.
http://www.wollmanskatingrink.com/main_wollman.htm

Go to wunderground.com and use their trip planner for your dates for historic weather info. Early Oct. is usually much nicer than late Oct.

Columbus Day Parade is fun - but not a huge deal like St Patrick's.

Don;t know the exact date- check the web site.

Weather in October varies tremendously. You may have a high in the 50'sor you may have some days of Indian summer and it will hit 80. At night it can go into the 40's. And it can rain anytime. But overall one of the most beautiful months in NYC - at the end trees in Central Park may start to turn.
