We've been to NOLA several times, so in mid-March - when we head southward to escape the bleak midwinter laying across the snowy Wisconsin landscape - we thought we'd spend a few days exploring the Louisiana Cajun country. But we'd also like to get in a little beach time....preferably in a condo - somewhere just to do some strolling and sunset watching (and shrimp-gobbling, of course). Is there anywhere on the LA coast that lends itself to this - or do we have to head to Texas, Alabama or the Florida panhandle for this portion of our getaway?

You could try Grand Isle. I don'tknowwhat the weather would be like in March, though.

It has been my experience that there are no "beaches" in most of LA...it just goes to swamp, swampier, and finally the ocean. This may not be the case all the way across the state, but where I have been near NOLA, it is. We spent some time at the beach in the Biloxi, MS area after our NOLA trip. The beach itself in Biloxi and Gulfport is not spectacular, but you can take a boat out to the barrier islands and the rest of the Guld Islands National Seashore and that beach was great (on Ship Island)

Go a little further east to Gulf Shores, AL, and you will find a beautiful beach!

Trust me...there are no good beaches in Louisiana...I'm a native. The beaches in Mississipi are a little better, but thats not saying much. I totally agree with the advice to head east a few hours on I-10 to Gulf Shores, Alabama...or further east into Perdido Key...Pensacola...Navarre...Fort Walton...Destin...they all have beautiful, clean, sugary white sand beaches and emerald green water. But please be careful of the rough surf at times, and the jellyfish.
