7" of snow in Steamboat

Just watched the news. They even had chain law over Rabbit Ears Pass.

Wow! Isn't it terribly early for that much snow - even in the Rockies? Well, maybe it will be the longest ski season on record. Fun!

Hope it is still there in January!! Does and early drop indicate a good season?

In Park City, we had 8" up on the mountain and I had 2" at my house. I've lived here 6 years and we've had snow in mid-Sept 4 out of 6. All the other "first storms" have dropped 12" at my house, elevation 6500 ft. so this wasn't a big surprise!

Now the aspens are really turning fast!

When it does snow this early, it usually warms up again a bit for a very nice fall.

Snow happens this early in Colorado all the time. September can range from warm and sunny to blizzard conditions all over the state. I can think of at least two September blizzards in Denver proper in the 15 years I've lived here. Certainly the high country can get snow any month of the year because of the altitude. I think it's tad early yet to declare great skiing later this year, but any snow helps and is welcomed. The foliage is changing early this year and there won't be much to see up there in many areas by the end of the month.

There is snow atop the mountains in Telluride and Durango too. If this summers rains' are any indication, I think we are in for a lot of snow here in CO!

Trail Ridge Road was closed on Sept. 9th because of snow.

Check out this Summit Co. webcam.

My hubby is in Telluride now. As a native Californian he's probably in shock with snow in Sept., LOL.
