50th Birthday in Las Vegas...

My husband wants to spend his 50th birthday in LV. He wanted to stay at the Plazzo and also wanted to see Bette Midler at Caesars. His birthday is Jan 8th. I checked on rooms and they have a few king bedded rooms for $499.00 per night - because there is a large convention (CEF) taking place for 10 days during that time. I can not seem to find an entertainment schedule (looked on ticketmaster and Casesars) for the month of January. Does Bette not perform that month? Does this seem high for a room at The Plazzo?

Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

Thank you

It does seem high, but it must be because of the convention. Don't know about Bette.
If rates are very high, check out the MGM Signature, which has great rooms and is my favorite place in town. You can rent a room on vrbo for a great price, even when comparable rooms are high.

You didn't say what days you wanted to be there, email me, I might be able to help you. The Venetian and Wynn are close to Plazzo, also Treasure Island.
Those rates are very high, but that is about the newest and swankiest place in Vegas. Not sure about Bette's schedule, I'll do some checking.

The Palazzo is actually connected to the Venitian by shared walks and waterways. forgot to mention that.

I've been doing some research...
Bette Midler is at Ceaser's for 3 years, but she only appears a certain # of days a month, example, she's there 10 days in October, 7 days in Nov... She alternates with Cher, Elton John, Jerry Seinfeld & other special guests. Her January schedule is not available and may not be until around October.I was given a toll free # to call to check about her schedule.

I checked with Caesar's about package deals for room & show. The package includes the room in one of the newer towers, which are very nice, 2 rear orchestra tickets & 2 drinks. I was told that rear orchest. seats are very good seats. The packages have been running apx. $659 and pmt is due at the time of booking and non refundable. Additional nights room are separate and can be paid upon arrival or checkout. She gave me some other rates and info, you could email me for that.

Wow that's a rough week for Vegas.

Signature at MGM Grand (junior suites) are $159 for your first 3 nights but then $459 on the 8th, ouch.

By the time I turned 50 (much sooner, actually) I learned that you can often save a huge bundle if you're not so set on celebrating a special occasion (anniversaries also) on the exact date.

We LOVED Bette Midler's show, and I'd recommend waiting for her schedule and booking your trip accordingly. Flexibility will get you much more favorable air fares and hotel rates.

Check the Las Vegas convention website and plan around the huge conventions and other events (Nascar, for example).

Most hotel websites have calendars so that you can see rates a month at a time and choose accordingly. Even so, you should keep checking as rates almost always go down as your dates approach.

dikbooks,

You are so right about flexibility! We actually thought that the week after all of the New Years celebrations would be somewhat slower and less crowded in LV. We are not going to stay firm on the dates...just as you suggested. We would rather stay and see what we really are interested in.

One of the best things about gaining a little on the age thing is realizing how important flexibility and compromise can be in having a joyful life!

Glad to hear that you like Bette M's show. I think it will be a lot of fun.

I agree that you should be flexible with your dates. Celebrate the big birthday around the most affordable hotel rates in Vegas and around Bette Midler's schedule. It's good you are planning a mid-week trip because the rates are always better Sunday - Thursday.

Good luck with your planning and have fun in Las Vegas!

Did you just check online, or did you phone the hotel? If you phone and ask for the best available rate for the dates you're staying you can sometimes get a better deal. When I booked last May (50th BD too), we stayed in a bella-suite, but was told by the operator to phone back and check the rates regularly because they tend to fluctuate (remember to get the booking code). I did this and was able to get a lower rate. It's not so bad because you're only billed for one nights accommodation at time of booking – so if you find another hotel at a better rate, you can cancel and receive a refund – if it's prior to the 24hr period of arrival. OR if both hotels are of similar stature you can play one against the other. Tell the operator you're celebrating a 50th BD to see if they can upgrade or give you something extra too.
