Just got this in my email from Mohonk Mountain House:

"We are offering our special overnight rate for our "December Midweek Delight" from December 7-23, 2003 midweek only (Sunday - Thursday nights).

Rates for a traditional room are $140.00 single occupancy and $220.00 double occupancy. Victorian rooms are $160.00 single occupancy and $245.00 double occupancy. Rates include dinner and breakfast, tax and service charge additional. Check-out is at 11:00 a.m. Please call our overnight reservations at (800) 772-6646 for more information."

I realize the price is higher than you requested, but dinner is included. The website says it's 90 min from Manhatten, and it looks gorgeous. Check them out at www.mohonk.com

Congratulations on your anniversary!

Are you looking for a fireplace IN your room or just in the hotel/inn? How about the American Hotel in Sag Harbor (fireplace in restaurant)?

There's another string with ideas. i'll try to find it.

Just can't find that string right now. Look at the Silvermine Inn & Tavern in Norwalk CT (don't know about f/p or breakfast). Aslo check places in Cold Spring & Rhinebeck.

Found by doing a web search NO PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I was actually going to reply a little earlier and mention Mohonk Mountain House, but it generally is much more than you mentioned. With that special the previous poster mentioned, it is definitely worth it. It is less than 2 hours from NYC, and their prices always include the meal. It's a good choice.
