25th Anniversary Trip

Hi everyone. Need some ideas/help in planning a short trip (2-3 days) to celebrate our 25th anniversary during the week of April 13, 2009. Unfortunately, we can't get time away for an extended trip.

We're open to flying a short distance from Boston/Providence though prefer not to spend all of our time traveling.

Looking for "special" lodging and not run of the mill -- luxury room with working fireplace, etc.

I'm toying with the White Barn Inn in Maine, Woodstock Inn in Vermont or possibly a trip to Savannah. My husband has never been to NY and that is also a possibility.

We're in our late 40's, love good food/drink and looking for a laid back relaxing get-away.

Thanks for your help.

Savannah is a great city, but not one where you would likely need a fireplace in April. If by NY, you mean New York City (another great city to visit), it doesn't quite fit the laid back and relaxing part. You might though consider Lake George in the Adirondacks. There is a historic hotel there called the Sagamore. Although I haven't been there, I saw it on one of those Rachel Ray (who is from this area) travel programs, and it looked really nice. Lake George, although somewhat comercialized, is a very pretty area.

NYC would get my vote first though-soooo much to do.

Charleston or Savannah good choices.

Take a look at the Inn at Meander Plantation near Culpeper Virginia. Don't know what how short, but it would require a plane trip and car rental. Inn has a cooking school and sep. bldg. suite with fireplace and jacuzzi. Wonderful food and wine also.

I highly recommend The Stone Hill Inn in Stowe,VT. I spent my honeymoon there and it was fabulous. The rooms have 2 sided fireplaces that are visible from the bedroom and the bathroom with 2 person jacuzzi . The food is fantastic as well.

I have never stayed at the White Barn Inn, but have dined there on 2 separate vacations, and it remains in my top 5 dining experiences in the. The atmosphere, service, food, and value are top notch. I would stay there in a heartbeat if it were within price range.

Kennebunkport itself is a very cute town to spend a couple of lazy days in. Besides White Barn Inn, I really enjoy Grissini's for Italian food. The water views from Kennebunkport are gorgeous, and there are lots of cute shops and dining establishments to enjoy.

I wouldn't ever hesitate to recommend Kennebunkport, and especially the White Barn Inn, to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion!
