2 nights and three days in Minnesota
We are going to the Fitzgerald Theatre to see A Prarie Home companion in St. Paul in late September. We'll be spending 3 days and 2 nights before moving on to Wisconsin and Chicago. What are the best fine-dining restaurants in and around St. Paul or "must-dine" restaurants? What would be some of the more interesting and beautiful things to do and see in and around St. Paul? Thought about going up to Duluth and Grand Marais. Are those good options?

Let us know what kind of food/price range you are looking for and I'd be happy to help you with the restaurants.
Will you be staying in St. Paul? There are many good options.
If you decide to go to Duluth or Grand Marias--you'll have many options for restaurants there too. Duluth and the North Shore are beautiful that time of year but you may not have enough time to do it all.

Hi, I am from Minnesota and just got back from Duluth and Grand Marais. They are both great places, although I prefer Grand Marais. It is an artist's town and the Gunflint Trail is neat. You may even see a moose. Lake Superior is truly wonderful, but a bit cold if you go in. I did just to say I could do it. The road up has improved in the last few years, but it still takes about 3 hours from Minneapolis as the expressway from Duluth only goes to Two Harbors and then back to a two lane highway with many deer on it.If you like scenery it is great. Check out Lutsen Mountain on your way to Grand Marais. The highest point in Minnesota is located there. More questions? post them and I can give your more details.

Hi:
We will be on a roadtip in September..traveling across the UP to Duluth and then up to Grand Marais. Heading south from Grand Marais we would like to take in the Great River Road to Winona, Minnesota. Are there any rerouting issues to take into consideration around that area due to the bridge collapse a few weeks ago?

Traffic wise, it's not difficult to avoid the sad location. Just avoid 35W thru Minneapolis and take 35E thru St. Paul, where you can connect with Highway 61.
A side trip to Stillwater, Minn., would be a nice diversion as well -- great river town ...
Actually, the highest point in Minn. is not in Grand Marais. It's not far from there, but takes a bit of a hike to reach.
