Looking for a 2 bedroom condo in Kona ( approx $165.00 night ) with good beach for swimming and in walking distance to stores and beach.

Sea Village condos are very nice, low-key, just south of Kona. Not sure if your price is high enough.

You should also look for condos in the Waikoloa Beach and south Kohala area. More of the newer resorts are there. Kona is not the only place to stay on the west side.

Check on VRBO( Vacation Rental By Owner). Good place to find lodging.

Also, go to Wizardpub.com , they have descriptions of condo complexes, complete with aerial fotos and comments about which buildings are best for views, noise, etc.

Another thought- when Wizard speaks of the road noise on Alii Drive(main drag lined with condo complexes), keep in mind that thanks to the lousy economy, things are fairly slow in Kona (we're here now, in an older house on Alii, and the road noise is mostly drowned out by the surf; except for the occasional big pickup with offroad tires.

Thanks for the help. We have booked Fairway Villas 2BR 2BR at Waikoloa Beach for $ 129.00 very nice and actually we stayed with Fairway in that area 2 years ago and found them very good to deal with.

That's a great choice; also new grocery and fast food restaurants, nice beach, nice complex, good place to do excursions from.
