$199 per night budget hotel in NYC

For those coming to NYC who are not aware of hotel prices currently Fodors is now featuring a brand new budget hotel that has just opened near Grand Central. Rooms start at $199 per night plus tax - so about $220 total. For that there is free coffee and tea in the lobby and apparently the rooms are large for NYC - a definite plus.

But, it doesn't say how long that into rate will be in effect - or how high the rates go - $199 is starting price.

Hmmm, that article was written in Dec 2013. Wonder what the prices are now?

The article, written in December of 2013, says "Grand opening rates start at $199." I imagine that at this time they are no longer offering grand opening rates.

Here are some other options, in an article from the NYTimes Frugal Traveler, from late 2012.

One would need to check current rates, and reviews:

I had very good luck on priceline and was able to stay at the Soho Grand for ~140 per night on President's Day weekend. I would bid aggressively - 4 star in Soho.

Yes - but President;s Day weekend is low season in NYC. Perhaps half what the prices will be in high season - Oct through NYE.

Check around, Sueblu. I just booked the Gem Hotel (the one not too far from. Penn Station) for $116 a night Sat, Sun, Mon 8/22-25. There are some good rates out there for August.

I booked the Hotel Boutique Grand Central for August 15-20 at $155 per night via Priceline Express (no bidding, you don't know what hotel you are getting until you buy, no refunds or cancellations.) I had a pretty good idea this was hotel that I was purchasing buy doing a little research at betterbiddin.com

The price, including all taxes and fees, works out to $180 per night.
