Travel Blanket

Hello, does anyone have a recommendation for a good, lightweight travel blanket? Looking for one for my mom who is very space-conscious in her packing!! Thanks!!

I always use one of my Ibex cotton flannel blankets for travel. Unfortunately, I haven't found a place in the states to buy one, so I pick them up whenever I'm in Canada. They are lightweight, come in various sizes (twin, full/double, queen), and are easily machine washed and dried.

If I'm not traveling to Canada, I pack a twin size for the trip. The blanket is enough to add warmth to the bed. It also works well as a beach blanket, large towel, etc.

If I'm traveling to Canada, I don't pack one, but pick one (or more) up at the first Zeller's I pass. Last year, I had extra room in my suitcase so I bought 3 more my last day.

Are you looking for one to actually use on a bed? Or just one for traveling like for on your lap, on the plane ride?

I like using pashminas (merino wool or cashmere) because they're lightweight, warm and can be used as scarves or shawls as well as blankets on the plane or for napping in hotels. I bought mine at Tie Rack in the UK.

I haven't tried this one yet, but it looks great:

I definitely plan on buying it for my trip in October.

I'm considering ordering a solid alpaca shawl from dharma trading company. It is $35 and is 24 inches by 70 inches, just the right size for a nap in your airplane seat, but small enough you can wear it as a wrap when boarding so you don't have to count it as luggage.

I just go to the fabric store and buy some yardage of flannel. It might cost $5.00 (cheap) but I can roll it up in a ziplock and I know it’s clean. Then if I buy too much and need the space I just toss it.

I bring a big pashmina rolled up in a gallon ziplock. I like palmetto's idea of wearing to save space in the carryon. I even bring it to tropical trips (fits in the front pocket of my backpack) because I get so cold in the AC on the plane.

Count me in with the pashmina crowd, though I love the idea of sewing up a lightweight flannel one.
