Hi, I'm looking for a dressy gold sandal with a 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" chunky (not spike or stiletto, and not a wedge) heel that I can wear under a gown for a wedding.
Problem: bunion on right foot!
Anyone know of soft soft leather sandals that would cushion the bunion and has a cushioned sole that's comfortable for all day wearing?
This may be a tall order to fill...
I'd consider flats too, but a little height would make the dress look nicer...
Just want to be comfortable.
The wedding is in a barn and there are wide spaces between the floorboards, hence no skinny heels. Wedges have always caused my foot to go out on me. I don't know the reason for this... A chunked heel is more stable. I don't mind thicker 'spoke' heels - some heels aren't spikes but are broader - those are okay..

You have my sympathy. My feet are very hard to fit. You might look at Ecco sandals - they're not all for trekking. Or Clarks. You do know about Zappos, right? No shipping charges in either direction.

My friend had a similar problem last year for a wedding. Search for wide width shoes (Zappos or DSW). She used a gel insert on the bunion for comfort.

gel inserts are good idea and also a gel cushion on the bunion if your shoe will allow it without showing it.

This is a shopping question and not at all travel related and thus belongs in the Lounge.

(Wear flats. Don't be silly.)

Don't heels, of any height, make the bunion hurt more?

BTW, I used to have a bunion and the podiatrist wanted to do surgery. Instead I saw a chiropractor who said it was the result of pronating, and improved it to the point I didn't need surgery. But it has to be the right chiropractor, one who doesn't just do spines. (I still see her, and she still needs to work on that foot every so often.)

I agree that this post is not very travel related, but normally I do like to see travel clothing and shoe questions on this forum. You only see the Fodorite Lounge when you are signed in. When I'm just browsing I don't sign in, and visitors wouldn't see it either.

You are traveling to this wedding, right? Do you have a DSW near you? You can try on lots of shoes and find one that works. I would wear flats for a barn though, I figure at a wedding the focus is on the bridal party.

I have very wide feet and find, for dress shoes, Munros fit and somehow never look "wide". Don't know how they do that. Find a place that carries them to try them on, Nordstrom is one and some specialty shoe stores. http://www.munroshoes.com
