Rec for Comfortable shoes?
We'll be in Italy for two weeks in June.
What brand of shoes do you like best for being on your feet all day? I would like to have some type of sandal or open shoe since it will be hot.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!!

Here is a recent thread called "Best walking shoes" which has 79 responses to it. Take your time reading it and hopefully you'll figure out which ones you'll be getting.

We will be there at that time too - I was hoping you'd get more replies so I could read them too. But just today, my friend showed me her stylish black Birkenstock sandals. I never thought of Birkenstock's (sp?) as fashionable looking, but these were - at only (!) $135. I am thinking of buying some great Italian shoes when I get there... Any other thoughts from anyone else?

here's what i posted in the above mentioned thread:
maybe i am in the minority here, but i would wear nice looking running shoes to do the daily site seeing and at night for dinner dress up. but here's the real question, if you were at home and had to go for an 8-10 mile walk would you were anything but running shoes. same goes for site seeing. i live in socal so i see tons of tourists. and i mostly see running shoes.
and btw, i say this cause when i went to europe last year i thought i'd look stupid wearing running shoes. so i took my ecco shoes. two things happened. one, i noticed that everyone (locals) were wearing running shoes. the office workers were obviously not, but then again i'm not going to the office while i'm there. two, middle of the trip i had such bad foot pain that i stopped and bought a pair of new balance running shoes. this time i'm going i'm taking 2 pairs of running shoes.
the nicest pair of "walking" dress shoes are not built for tourist walking. so go to a nice running store and ask to be fitted for the correct running shoe.

I like Clark's and Rockport. Last summer I took a pair of Clark's sandals for a 2 week trip and did not experience any problems. They were lined with the fabric used in scuba gear so there were no seams to rub on my feet, and the fabric allowed them to breathe. I had a pair of Clarks's black walking shoe for the times I couldn't wear sandals (when it rained every morning in Paris!). They were both approximately $75 retail (I got them at a good sale price). I need good arch support and both these brands meet my needs. I did purchase a cute pair of fun shoes in France and love wearing them and being reminded of my trip. So I recommend you take your sensible shoes and do some shopping for a fun pair to wear at home.

My husband and I both bought the jungle mocs by Merrill. I also bought an open toe shoe by Merrill, it has "diva" in its name. They are sold on Nordstrom's website. They're very stylish and the most comfortable shoes we tried on.
