Need ideas and inspiration for a new trip in the US

Just came back from a wonderful trip to Catalonya. Need ideas for a trip to plan in the future. I probably can't afford another European trip for a while. I was thinking of California: San Diego or Orange County. What would you suggest? I have an almost 7 year old. Thanks!

You'll get more responses if you repost your question on the US forum, especially if you tag it for California. There's simply more 'traffic' on that forum so you'll get a lot more eyes on your question.

You may want to include what time of year you're looking at, approximately what your budget is (luxury vs Super 8), what your interests are, what your childs interests are, etc. That way people can try to tailor their responses to what you enjoy.

I went to San Diego when my daughter was 7. It was nice, and there are lots of family-friendly things to do.
I normally am not big on zoos, but the zoo there is first-rate and big. There's also a little amusement park on the beachfront, and Legoland in Carlsbad is not far (we did not go there).
We did go to Cabrillo National Monument one day and went tide-pooling. We also spent a couple of days in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, 2 hrs east, and stayed in a resort there, hiked during the day in the desert. This was in March, and the weather, in both the desert and the coast, was very pleasant. In all, I liked San Diego, it's small and easy to drive around, beautiful landscapes, and a laid-back vibe....

We stayed at a place called The Inn at Sunset Cliffs, in the Ocean Beach neighborhood. The hotel is very simple, but clean with nice beds and linens, and we stayed in a 3-room suite. However, the property is perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Pacific, and that is just spectacular and gorgeous. And that's the thing they're charging you for (although it wasn't as expensive as many places downtown adn in the center..)

As you say nothing about what your interests are, I can't see how you expect anyone to suggest anything. I could suggest a great little town in the California desert if you love hiking for example but what would be the point if you are a city person and only interested in city attractions?

As for where to post, the words 'Trip Ideas' do not seem to make much sense to many regular posters here who think you must post in an area specifc subdivision of this forum to get answers. I disagree.

If you wish to post on more than one subdivision of this Forum go ahead. You may find different people responding on both. That is how to get 'a lot more eyes' on what you post.

San Diego is a lot of fun, especially with kids.
