Five married men turning 40 next year. We are looking to go on a trip to celebrate/commiserate. I am looking for ideas. We live in the Midwest (U.S.) but are willing to go almost anywhere. We like the outdoors, beer, sports, etc. Total coast per person under $2000. Looking for ideas! Thanks for the help.

for how many days? If you are flying somewhere - that could take a big bite out of your budget.

But my initial thought was the Pacific northwest maybe based out of Seattle.

Seattle could definitely work (depending the time of year for the weather)... we have a couple great stadiums/teams, plenty of local breweries, hiking not too far outside the city, etc.

Or you might be able to find a package deal to a beach resort in Mexico (again pricing depending time of year, if you go off-season between May to Oct you'd have a better chance of keeping the budget, but watch out for rainy season Aug/Sept).

What time of year?

What type of trip? Beach? Mountain? Golf? Drinking? Sightseeing? Etc....

You're not going to get too far with that budget.

Thanks for the initial replys. We are looking at about a week. We like to golf but probably wouldn't build a trip around it. Also, we'd go in summer. No resorts - this is more of an adventure/sightseeing trip. In college we road tripped around the country a few times and did Mardi Gras a couple times. As adults we've done Vegas, Whistler and a couple road NFL games just to give an idea of our past. We'd like to "step it up" for this trip.

Rafting down the Colorado? Camping in the Rockies (Canada or US)?

You could still go to Mexico but not do a beach resort. There's lots of things to see and do, say on the Yucatan peninsula or the Baja, like hiking, camping, cenotes, kayaking, ruins, etc. But I'm not sure your budget can stretch that far.

How about a Route 66 tour. There is plenty of sightseeing along the road and lots of camping opportunities. I think it's a great choice for you as it includes lots of of adventures and activities.

Grand Canyon?

Bend, Oregon. Great golf, great beer, tons to do outside. Watch college football on TV or go to a Duck game in Eugene. Fly into Redmond nearby.

Have you done the Utah National Parks? There is also some nice golf around St. George, look up "Red Rock Golf Trail".

I think Oregon would be a good choice.
Since you stay in Midwest of USA, travelling to Oregon will not cost you much, and help you save ample of money for your adventurous trip. And if you are an admirer of nature, then Oregon is a very good place. It has magnificent beaches and breathtaking scenic places with some really good adventurous places
