No availability for Machu Picchu tickets for dates that are months away?

Hello folks,

I'm investigating a possible trip to Peru at the end of May. I've just been trying to get some prices together for a general budget and am stumped regarding the Machu Picchu tickets. I understand that the Peruvian Government has now started to recently limited the number of visitors to the ruins each day, so tickets are selling out far in advance but the I am finding 0 tickets available for random dates I selected in May. I find it hard to believe that all these dates, approximately five months away are sold out. Am I missing something here? I tried looking at dates in January for curiosity's sake and am also finding 0 tickets. And yes I'm going to the official government site: http://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/

Any helpful information/insight would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I have a feeling they just haven't made the 2012 tickets available yet. I would write to them at this address and ask:

[email protected]

I had a question a while back and they answered very promptly (in English, even!). Good luck!

You might also find it easier booking a guided trip that includes Machu Pichu. Even if it's just an overnight tour from Cusco, that might be easier than arranging a private trip, and it doesn't add that much to the cost.

I emailed them a few weeks ago and they said 2012 would be available on Dec. 15. Of course, that has come and gone so I e-mailed them again a couple days ago. Now they're saying 2012 tickets will be available by the last week of December.

Thank you so much for your replies! I figured as much but thought it would be better to consult some more knowledgeable sources. I'll be sure to check back next week and hope for the best.

Things are very confused on that site odds are great they are not yet on offer. Self-guiding usually set my tickets up through www.apulodge.com if a big deal.usually for me stay flexible buy night B4 at cultural center in AC was 120 oss soles for me last no change USD or CC.Bus up was $7 each way.
There is a new high charge to climb HP I would skip that.
Might strongly consider a trek incalandadventures.com through
the Sun Gate from $300 with Flavio for me last was well worth it.Many reputable folks like perubesttours.com Mike or Yure ChavezPerutrek4good.com to help if needed. Many touts scammers here there also strikes I never wire money and insuremytrip.com

Happy Planning!

www.spirit.com cheapest flights down for me to LIM
$239 RT all in including fees tax an awesome deal.
Saved enough on air to pay forthe rest of my econo trip.
I would not worry in early May crowds have not arrived
rarely if ever booked most of it is just to gin up business.

Hmm, so the last week of December has now come and gone and still no tickets listed as being available for 2012. Is the office being more blase since this is technically the off season there? I would like to get some plans made but the fact that tickets are not yet posted for 2012 is slightly irking...

Please contact a local tour operator, who will likely have the most up to date information.

It's a holiday, it's Peru and given how much trouble they had establishing the website, their programmers are not the best. There is no reason to panic and book a tour if that isn't your travel style. They are updating the entire website, eg list of approved agencies and guides. I notice they've added this weeks tickets. Just give it time.

Oh I've had plenty of experience with web site updates and whatnot in other countries where "mañana mañana" is the norm

Thanks though for letting me know that this week's tickets have been added!
