Transportation to Machu Picchu

Is it possible that all of the trains from Cuzco and the Sacred Valley could already be booked up for a trip at the end of August?? Are there other options to get to Machu Picchu??

Thanks for any help!

It is quite likely. It is after all, one of the most popular travel destinations in the world, esp in the summer (northern hemi summer). I suppose you could see if the Hiram Bingham is booked, since it is the most expensive; almost $600. Maybe you've tried.

We got the train from Ollantaytambo to MP at beginning of Sept. We purchased tickets from the station in Cusco a week in advance. We had to be flexible on timings but it was no real problem getting tickets even at that late stage. I do recall however that they were only releasing tickets in blocks periodically so you may wish to keep trying in the hope of getting the next release. Alternatively, you could try local travel agents who may have allocations of tickets (albeit at a premium)

Did you try InkaRail? They only had one car full, the other being completely empty. They are more expensive but I don't think tickets should be that hard to get.

I sincerely doubt that all trains are booked. Try selecting SV(Sacred Valley) to MP and don't select a train type.

There are many more departures from the Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo) than from Cusco. You just take a taxi to Ollanta.

If you are getting an error message chances are the PeruRail website is acting up. It happens. Try again later tonight.

Peru Rail's website is working now. Lots of availability at the end of August. Try it late at night if you have problems.
