Need a "just in case" Buenos Aires restaurant recommendation

As part of a tour that is focused mostly on Patagonia, I will be in Buenos Aires for 2 nights, one of which will be "free" of tour.

I suspect that I will end up joining other tour members somewhere, but in case this doesn't work out, I would like a recommendation for a restaurant in the Recoleta area where our hotel is, for a single woman who doesn't speak Spanish, and appreciates good, and local, food.

I haven't been to BA in a couple years but here are a few suggestions.
Casual for great empanadas and the likes is El Sanjuanino. Rodi Bar is a casual neighborhood place. Sottovoce is an upscale, fine dining restaurant.
Hopefully AV and MarnieWDC will chime in.
Have a great trip -- loved Patagonia and BA is fabulous!

Hi, Liz! I see you are quite a poster. Great!

I'd say the Rodi Bar http://tinyurl.com/9dkwudw is your best bet.

Not great, but cheap by American standards and you can dine there early, because it is open all day, which is quite unusual in BA.

If you want an upscale steak place, consider: http://tinyurl.com/6y4sdhq

In both places, particularly at the Rodi Bar, you'll feel fine by yourself.

When are you going to be in BA, Liz?

Would you and the "other tour members" tolerate my company for dinner? A sort of Fodor's GTG?

Have a great time in my country.

Hi, avrooster

Although I have traveled to a number of Fodors GTGs in the last few years, this trip does not involve Fodorites.

I am celebrating a big birthday mid-January with a National Geographic Excursion. Since most of the planning is out of my hands, I haven't needed to ask questions here, but have lurked a bit, and know you are the Argentina expert.

Being an early bird even by US standards, I suspect the dining hours will be an adjustment. I am getting very excited about this adventure. I appreciate your suggestions, and hope to be able to use them. Thanks!

Well, my English is a little rusty, but I guess that means NO GTG. Just kidding, Liz. LOL!!!

And, to make that more than just "maybe", the dates of your stay in BA would help.

We will be in BA mid January; a gtg for a meal in a restaurant in Recoleta sounds nice....if it suits the OP's planned schedule.

I think, were I dining alone, that Rodi Bar would be very high on my list. It is so real, and the food is quite good. Fervor is higher end (reservations a must) but might feel a bit stuffy, dining alone. The food is excellent.

Elberko: your trip with NG will ikely be fascinating. I hope you enjoy you brief stay in BsAs, as well.

Thank you, MarnieWDC, for the additional information and kind wishes. Hopefully the pieces will fall into place for a GTG.

Well, that's Liz's only possibly available date for a GTG.
