El valle de Elquí

I have heard that the Elquí region is amazing. I am wondering if any one knows of tours from Santiago to La Serena and the Elquí region?

We will be traveling to Chile in February.

Thanks,

Shelley

There would be tours of the valley from La Serena. It is about a 6 hour drive or bus to La Serena or a short flight. There are probably tours from Santiago, but getting there is so easy on your own.

If we decide to take a bus or drive from Santiago to La Serena, I am wondering if the scenery along the route is exceptionally beautiful? That will influence whether we fly or not.
Also, how many days should we plan on to this trip? We will be in Chile from Feb. 12-Feb. 19.

Are there places closer to Santiago with beautiful scenery that would make for a good trip?

I loved Valparaiso and its easy to get to by bus from Santiago. Lots of people enjoy Vina del Mar which is a popular beach resort. Both are ~2 hours from Santiago and near each other so easy to visit both.

The scenery going north is mainly dry desert. Flying is probably a better idea with a short time frame. You could give La Serna a day, two in the valley so you can do an observatory. I would say 3 days minimum.
