My Lima Layover

By some bizarre LAN airmile calculus, it is half as many miles to fly nonstop to Lima & backtrack to Quito, than to go nonstop. So I decided to do a 12 hour layover in Lima, my favorite SA city. Slept most of the 8 hrs to Lima, bypassed the transit lounge & went thru immigration with little wait time. After customs, walked out into the lobby and found my ride. Left luggage is on the domestic side , 5 soles per hour max at 28/day or $10. Checked luggage goes all the way to Quito.
I used taxidatum,a transfer service a few years old. You book online and they also cantapppcan back, $20 or 55 soles each way. The car was a Toyota sedan, new. Safe driver ontime, fluent English. Better than Taxi Green IMO.
My usual last minute research revealed that this is Restaurant week, I booked kunch at El Kapallaq, a highly regarded seafood restaurant frequented more by businessmen and the uppercrust than tourists or visiting foodies ( they are usually ala carte and expensive so a great opportunity. Unlike many US RW menus, they had the "good stuff" and normal portions by US standards, not tasting bites. Ceviche norteño, Locro Limeño w prawns, and afresh cherimoya hit the spot. As always owner Lucho welcomes every table. I asked why ge was not out surfing?. After wiping out on stairs he is looking forward to being released for Saturdays swell. He also recommended the red surfclam now available from Ecuador.

Oh great the rest didnt post! Chaptertwo..After lunch, walked a few blocks to MAC (www.maclima.pe) the contemporary museum. There is an interesting video documentary, Saynatakuna, about the masked dancers and mask makers in Paucartambo. Worthwhile if in Lima (Barranco) thru June 7. English subtitled.
Had a brief visit with the staff at my home away from home B&B. They panicked a bit when I rang in, thinking it was a missed reservation , lol.
Then a snack of yuquitas before hopping the metropolitano up to Ricardo Palma, to browse shops on La Paz (silver and some artCraft, and knitwear outlet for Sol Alpaca. Also had to visit tienda La Quinta for $5 Pima cotton tees (manufacturer overruns and seconds). I can tolerate the chaos in small doses, if I can score top brands like Lucy and Theory. I found John Varvatos with an $88MSRP, I recovered my $50 investment for the layover. It's at Larco 497 near Schell and the "cat park". There are even more than I remembered, some in the trees.

AND didnt take the trip report flag.
My final activity was a bite at Saqra, La Paz 646 in the Miraflores Gringolandia. Somewhat "creative" menu. If you reserve through Restorando.com there is a 30% on ala carte. Portions were enough that a solterito salad with quinua crusted scallops was a comfortable and healthish meal. Bring cash as their cc machines were not cooperating.

Not the usual but perhaps some ideas for others abd happy to answer questions.
