About the above "SottoVoce can be expensive": "Expensive" is not an absolute concept, the way I see it. Compared to an equivalent restaurant in NY, Sottovoce is preposterously cheap.

I tend to value things not just according to their price, but rather according to what you get for that price. Seen from that point of view, I feel Sottovoce is cheap, compared to most other local restaurants.

About the above "Anything on Puerto Madero in my opinion is extremely touristy and usually more expensive": I agree about the "touristy" part, but I went to the trouble of checking usually reliable sources and I'm told both the menu and the prices are the same in both branches of Sottovoce.

I suggested the Puerto Madero location because I thought it would be nice to have dinner near the river, if it is very warm, as I explained at the time.

I don't compare things in NY to things here in BA though. In Buenos Aires, Sottovoce is expensive.
Since many visitors to BA are not from NY , that comparison will be meaningless.

I agree about value according the what you get rather than just about the price. But then, there are so many places here where you get quite a lot of everything for a low price too.
There are so many restaurants in Buenos Aires.. it is really amazing.
Even when I lived in NYC and had all those restaurants to enjoy, I don't remember it being as great as it is here. . maybe because we are still in the process of "discovering" all these places for ourselves ..

I have only been to the Sottovoce in Recoleta.

Are the mosquitoes as bad out in the countries as they are here in town?
I know Puerto Madero is having their own problem, with the Reserve and all that standing water. I have a friend who just complained about one of the restaurants having mosquitoes ( inside!) ..

Condu: I had suggested Sunday the 17th but La Despensa was not open on that day. As it turned out it isn't open on the 18th either so I suppose we can still be flexible with the date.

I bumped into some friends today who were in B A last March. They are foodies and they highly recommended ' Lo de Jesus ' Trip Advisor's reviewers seem to really like it too. What do you think?

About the mosquitoes....I am told I planned too late to take the shots for Y F. I got Hep A B shots today as well as H1N1. Do you think I am at risk? What precautions can I take?

I don't see why you would be at any more risk than anyone else here.
I use OFF cream and Skin So Soft and I spray OFF on my clothes.

My husband uses nothing and has not one bite. ( this is because I am that much sweeter than he is)

We were in the parks much of the afternoon, not one mo kee toe came near me.

They do spray but then we get rain .. it was supposed to rain tonight.. hopefully they will spray after that.

Don't get crazy from all this .. really. . don't let it spoil your excitment.
Re: your neighborhood here... you are a short walk to the Cemetery and the Feria on weekends and the parks .. I live around the parks.. we will run into you , no doubt, sooner or later

kodi, the Canadian Embassy is on Tagle, which is a short street in Recoleta.. the Embassy is in the general area where many of the other Embassies are .. a few blocks from the MALBA Museum and a short walk from the Belle Artes Museum .. if you look on the map , you can use those as the landmarks. It is very close :- )

SO far , no snow here....and that makes me happy.

Scarlett- I don't think the mosquitos here are all that much worse than anywhere else we've been around the city. They are out but not swarming. I am highly allergic and a big attractor of mosquitos. About a week ago, they were eating me alive. Maybe I've just adjusted. I use Off if I remember.

The prices at Sottovoce are the same as any restaurant in Puerto Madero. Yes- a little overpriced, yes- touristy- but you can't beat the view.

The Parks here in Recoleta seem to be much less buggy or perhaps they are spraying more. My husband arrived in the morning with the dog one day and they were in the process of spraying Plaza Francia.
Hopefully this means we can go out without the veils lol.

I cannot get into much of a Christmas spirit here, as I did in the States.
We don't have a tree, it is hot.. I am not adjusted yet to Christmas in the summer.
But it is still a very nice place to spend Christmas so I will not complain
This year we did not go out with friends, we spent last evening with family.
We are invited back for NYE but we want to spend that, iChatting with kids in the States.

I will be unable to attend the upcoming event, but may I be so bold as to throw out another suggestion.....Gardiner, located in Costanera Norte,serves Cocina "Porteña" Like the restaurants in Puerto Madero, Gardiner offers riverside dining...but is far, far from the tourists in Puerto Madero. Gardiner serves a traditional menu of grilled meat and pastas....
