GTG in B A in January?
Hi All,
We (partner and myself) will be in Buenos Aires January 9 to February 6. Reading some of these threads I think there will be several of us in B A in January so I'm suggesting that we have a GTG. I'd like it to be shortly after I get there to be able to take advantage of everything I learn and/or make friends early in my stay.
Like others I love to eat good food and would love some knowledgeable ones to suggest a meeting place and maybe we can all weigh in on a date.
Coming from a wonderful but very cold spot on the earth I'm getting so excited about being able to be in and around such a world class city for a whole month. I don't want to waste a minute of it.

At this writing, I believe I'll be in BA, at that time.
Whoever is interested can post here and we'll see if we can agree on a convenient date. Fridays are bad for me.
What kind of food do you favor, MsLizzy?
It should be warm enough for you here in January!

Thanks for responding,
avrooster, I have to say I love French food best but Italian is a close second. I don't know the Argentinian cuisine yet but I'm looking forward to get to know it as well and hopefully learn to cook some specialties. I'm allergic to cilantro so I stay away from most Thai restaurants or I'm very careful in ordering. Renting an apartment will be good for that. I'll be able to actually shop at the markets and cook whenever I want to.
kodi, we are only in Argentina for that month and using B A as our base. Sorry we will miss you.
When I was reading through some of the threads it did seem like there were going to be several people around at that time. I hope they see this thread.

I am in for a GTG. I am flexible in dates. I am arriving Jan 16th & leaving Feb 16th. I will be in Iguazu Feb 2nd to 4th.
I would like to have a date firmed up as I am meeting various parties in BA. Also, going for a couple of over night trips.
AVRooster: it would be fun to go somewhere off the beaten tourist path. Quintessentially Portrno.

When I read "Portrno", I wondered: "Porno"????????????
Then I realized it had to be "Porteño".
Alt 164 for the "ñ"! See: http://tinyurl.com/9tcqs8
Just kidding. LOL!!!
I have an idea, which is certainly off the beaten path and will require a taxi ride.
Research: "La Despensa", in Barracas.

We're arriving on Sunday the 17th and leaving on the 20th. Wish it was longer but looking forward to returning to BsAs even for a couple days at the end of our trip. I'll keep checking this thread and hope a GTG will materialize.

av rooster: Sorry of the typing error of "Porteño." I was on my way to bed when I answered your post in the dark.
But, I am confused why your mind went to "porno." LOL!!
"La Despensa", in Barracas sounds ideal. But, I am not sure that I want to sit on you knee in the taxi after the "porno" joke. (Blush)

Ok, so far we have avrooster, condu, giovanna, and myself. (can I assume spouses?) The dates look like between Jan 17th and 20th at this point so giovanna can come. Is that all right for the others?
avrooster have you got any ideas yet for where would be a good place to meet? We still have time to decide on that.

avrooster : I searched for La Despensa in Barracus but the reviews are so so. Can you tell me why you have recommended it?
Also, unless you DW would be uncomfortable it would be nice to meet her. I am taking Spanish lessons but cannot speak past the very basic.(yet)

Above I was asked by condu to suggest "somewhere off the beaten tourist path. Quintessentially Portrno." and La Despensa certainly fits that description.
I've been there only once and I was happy with it. I'm open to any other suggestions.

Having just said that, my BH just googled other foodie review sites and got this list from Chowhound's favourite top ten restos in BA. Also, there are some good reviews on tripadvisor. Sorry I questioned your choice, avrooster and I'm sure it's great. Have you tried any of the others?

Las Violetas (best for a late breakfast or lunch -- not dinner).
I think we have a plan! Now let's settle on a date. We'll be taking our laptop so can stay in touch even when we are there.
BTW, we have secured our Recoleta apartment and I'm soooooo looking forward to the trip. It has been -23C the last few nights near Ottawa, Canada.

Now, that we have decided on a restaurant, I would like to have the date & time firmed up. So I can book other evenings in BA without conflict with this dinner. Also, we going for a couple of over-night trips that are yet, to be booked.
