I just remembered a couple of places we used when staying the Yanahuara district of Arequipa. a taxi ride from the Plaza de Armas - Picanteria La Palomino and La Nuevo Palomino. Close together, both are really good for traditional home style, Peruvian food, the latter being a little more upmarket. We ate lunch there a few times great food and huge portions. you should find them on TripAdvisor.

I did not like La Nuevo Palomino. If you are traveling with a larger group, it may work for some family-style dining, huge servings of chicharron, etc. seemed the specialty. Don't bother order the Chupe de Camarones there.

Honestly I wouldn't go to Yanahuara if your time is limited and you aren't staying there. There are more interesting places in Arequipa.

Once again, thanks to all! We leave tomorrow equipped with your collective expertise. Fodorites never fail to deliver!!!! We are very much looking forward to amazing food, glorious vistas, and tons of new experiences (hopefully all of the good kind!). As we all know planning the trip is half of the fun so thank you again for keeping me company for these last few months.

I post a lot of pictures on facebook as I go so if anyone is interested you can like my page Stella's Spoon https://www.facebook.com/Stellas-Spoon-467296603481674/ or follow on Instagram @traveling_stella https://www.instagram.com/traveling_stella/

Bon voyage! If your trip is even half as wonderful as I thought mine, it will be filled with memorable moments.
