BA and Estancias
My bf and I are going to BA in July. We are aware that this is winter. We were wondering if we can still visit any ranches or Estancias during this time, and which ones we should visit. We would like to take a day trip or maybe stay overnight somwhere if we find a really special place. We have never been to any Estancias and only know a little bit about what they have to offer. Any suggestions?

We enjoyed our stay at La Cinacina (except for the mosquitos) - it was within walking distance of downtown San Antonio de Areco, but far enough away that we didn't feel like the town was encroaching on us. That was in March, though.

I had a really good time the Santa Susana Ranch. Here's an except about it from my trip report:
We ate great food, watch some fun "cowboy" tricks, listened to really beautiful music and tasted a lot (too much? haha) of local wine. It was really a delight, something one normally wouldn't think of when planning a trip to a big city like BA.

Suerte!

The weather is pretty mild in the winter there unless you are talking about estancias in Patagonia. I can say from experience that Estancia El Rocio is quite nice.

I liked El Ombú. The gaucho show was much better than some that I've heard about from my friends. They had this one 'gaucho' that did 'horse whispering' and had the horse laying on the ground with his feet in the air, the gaucho's hat hanging off his hoof. He barely even touched the horse. It probably helped that the gaucho was very attractive...when I had heard about the gaucho shows, I had imagined the 'gauchos' as grizzled old men, but this particular one was just a few years older than me (mid-20s) and very good looking. We also went on a really long horseback ride, which I loved. They own a whole lot of property and it was really beautiful.
I wouldn't bother staying overnight--it's super expensive and not particularly any nicer. If you really want to stay overnight and not just make a day of it, I'd recommend staying somewhere else. We stayed at another place that I randomly found on the internet, which was much cheaper. It was actually even more 'en el campo' (in the country), several km down a dirt road. I was nervous when the cab started down it but it actually ended up being really clean and nice, and we were the only guests. http://www.posadaelrecuerdo.com.ar/b...nguage=English
