Celebrating in Mexico City and Oaxaca!

My wife and I, an energized Senior couple will be celebrating both our anniversary and my birthday in Mexico City and Oaxaca in late January!
Our itinerary starts 6 days in Mexico City at Casa Mali and 6 days in Oaxaca at Hotel Pug Seals.

We have been to Mexico City once before and never been in Oaxaca. Looking for restaurant recommendations in both cities as well as must sees in each location. My wife is a vegetarian and photographer specializing in street art/murals. We both enjoy all genres of live music, anything cultural , touring neighborhoods and enjoying a good glass of wine.

Since we will be celebrating we are interested in finding the right restaurant for both occasions in Oaxaca. Do you have any tour guides that you can suggest in Oaxaca?

Thanking you in advance!

Hi, allyboy,
Hope you have a wonderful birthday celebration and anniversary! We went almost 2 years ago and absolutely loved Oaxaca. Here is my TR with lots of things to do and see - it’s very, very visual.

We LOVED Oaxaca!

I know everyone loves Mexico City - unfortunately, we both got sick there after our stay in Oaxaca and then were victims of a scam. As a fairly well-traveled couple, it was especially shocking to realize we were being victimized. I did write about it so if you search on my name, you’ll see more details, just to be aware. But no one else I know who has traveled there had such a bad experience.

We spent two weeks in Oaxaca City last year and had a great time. I would make a stop at the Oaxaca Lending Library. It's the English library and they have a listing of things that are going on that might interest you. Also if you wife likes murals, you should check out a neighborhood called Jalatlaco. It's kind of an up and coming area with LOTS of murals, coffee shops, some cafes. Very walkable. It's east of the park called El Llano past Calle de Jose Maria Pino Suarez, north of the Centro Historical District. Go to Boulenc for lunch, great sandwiches. Also Casa Teviche on Miguel Hidalgo is a nice place for lunch. You will love Oaxaca.

Thanks, TDiddy! We really loved Oaxaca! We’re off to San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato next month, but part of me wants to return to Oaxaca! It is time to try other places, though…
