Friday poll: How many countries have you visited?

Since it seems that a lot of Fodorites are very well-traveled, I thought it might be fun to find out exactly how traveled everyone is! So, how many countries have you visited? Flight layovers in a country doesn't count as "visited".

Ok, I'll start... my number is 7 - I'll get to add two more soon!

I've visited 8 countries, so far - Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and Austria (plus 43 of the 50 United States).

My husband, B.J., has visited 17 total - all of the above (not including all the states), plus Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, and Jamaica

And there's so much more to see....Peace

Robyn

Not counting layovers and islands that belong to other countries, about 20.

I was a bit surprised when I started counting.

Europe: UK, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic (11) (Granted, some of these are rather rushed trips)

Asia: Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong (part of China), Taiwan (5, if you count the mainland as separate from China)

North America: US (of course), Canada

So this gives 17-18.

I should start working on another continent.

Europe: UK (England, Wales and Scotland), France, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Vatican (if you count that), and Belgium (the bus passes through, and I did get off the bus to use the bathroom). That's about 14.

Asia: China (incl. Hong Kong & Macau), Taiwan (if you count that as seperate country), Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Israel, Jordan. That's 9.

Africa: Egypt. 1.

N. America: Canada, Mexico. 2.

So, that's about 26, not including the U.S.

StCirq,
I would say you could count the Bahamas as they became an independent nation in 1973. I included that one but didn't count Bermuda, U.S. & British Virgin Islands, St. Maarten/St. Martin, French Polynesia, or Hong Kong.

Didn't think to include Vatican City or the U.S. either

So 12 not counting the US.
I was on a roll there for a while, with a trip abroad every year or two...then we had three kids...now that thy're older, we can start again!

Some, unfortunately, only on business and therefore much too short.
