Europe: England, Scotland, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.

Also Mexico and the Bahamas. Oh yeah, and our wonderful neighbor to the north as well (Vancouver, BC, is a beautiful city with one of the greatest urban parks, Stanley Park, there is)!

12 - but several repeat visits. With so many trips to do in Europe, I am less concerned then I used to be with adding new countries and am more concerned with seeing the many splendors each country has to offer. I used to be more into the "I've been to Paris so I've been to France" thing but now I know that to really see a country takes several, if not many, trips. I.e, in France I have been to Paris, the Loire and Burgundy and feel like I haven't even scratched the surface!!

I had a sneaking suspicion that I'll be the "newbie" traveler with my 7 countries, but you guys certainly proved that to me! Wow, 36 countries? That's great! All I can hope for is be able to double my number within 10 years.

Now, how do I go about winning the lottery so I'll be independently wealthy and be able to travel whenever I want?

Looks like 20, plus 38 of 50 states. My goal to double the countries and visit all 50 states. From beer to wine to schnapps to tequila to mai tais and to local drinks unknown (probably for the best), here is a toast to all of us for being so fortunate to be able to list all these countries we've traveled to throughout the years.

I remember a couple of years ago, Tracy and I were sitting with our friends on the rooftop of the Hotel Hermitage in Firenze (drinking wine, of course). My buddy just looked at us and said, "Do you know how lucky we are?" Well, I do.

Ecuador, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, U.S., England, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Italy, Switzerland, Monaco, Stato della Cittá del Vaticano.

113 countries. Subtract 8 for refueling or plane touchdowns. That makes 105 "legitimate" countries by this post's rules. I had a life goal to get to 100 nations by age 50. Made it by age 43. What a privilege to see what I've seen, been where I've been, tasted what I've tasted, met whom I've met. The world truly is an oyster to be tasted.

I'm a television director-cameraman specializing in overseas documentary, video & tv shoots for clients like Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Travel Ch etc. But also focus on shoots worldwide for charities, humanitarian groups & medical missions agencies working in Asia, Africa & Latin America. Assignments like that, most times, will get one far off the beaten track to, say, Mozambique, Bolivia or Khazakstan. That's just about the only way to get beyond the normal 20-30 countries most would vacation or travel to. Thanks for asking.

Wow! I am such a neophyte compared to a lot of you guys.

My original count was 20 but upon reflection I realized I had left out Italy - I don't know why, I sure had fun there!

So my final answer is 21.
