Friday poll: How many countries have you visited?

37 and adding one more next year.
Nuke, make sure you call it the Czech Republic. A local got angry when we mistakingly called it Czechoslovakia and followed with some derogatory remarks about Slovakia.

nukesafe from 33 to 59 demonstrates how crazy The Century Club list is.
Thursdays the Century Club puts us at the same number, 87!
In addition to the weird territories and islands that they consider different countries, they also allow you to count flight stopovers.
Our rule is that the country counts if you get a passport stamp or it's considered a state by the UN, though we do stretch it as we count the Vatican which only has observer status!

Using the century club definition puts me at 93 but isn't there a fair amount of double counting on that list?
LancasterLad - didn't realise you were a Falklands Veteran! Did you ever come my ex boss, Admiral Sir Jeremy Black? The just plain Captain Black, commander of HMS Invincible back then. An interesting character!!

No. I was in the Royal Navy's other floating airfield during the Falklands Campaign, HMS HERMES.
Must see if I get hold of a copy of his Memoirs...

I have got quite a well known old boss though, Andrew Green (Lord Green of Deddington). He was my 'big' boss in the British Embassy in Riyadh when I arrived there in 2009. He's head of Migration Watch UK now!

95 countries recognised by the United Nations + 6 others.
Africa - 24
Asia/Middle East - 28 + Taiwan
Americas - 17 + Bermuda + Falkland/South Georgia Islands
Europe - 20
Oceania - 6 + Cook Islands + New Caledonia
Antarctica
Will take the total to 98 UN recognised countries in December/January adding Qatar, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
No idea how many according to the ludicrous Century Club list.

57. Probably over 80 if I had used the Century Club list. The Hawaiian Islands and Alaska as countries...Really??? And double credit for St. Martin/St. Maarten, or Egypt in Africa/Egypt in Asia.
