5 Days in Burgandy

Hi All. My husband and I will be travelling from Barolo, Italy and planning on visiting Burgandy for 5 nights then flying out of Lyon. Dates will be May 4-9th and we will fly out of Lyon on the 10th at 11:45am. We are late 30s, love wine and amazing food (especially slow lunches) going for long walks, sitting at cute cafes and people watching while we travel.

So far I’m interested in doing a wine tour with Discover Burgandy, eating at Maison Lameloise, visiting Semur-en-Auxois and visiting Fontenay Abbey, Beaune (& maybe Dijon) and I think we will spend a day doing our own wine tastings. I also read Macon might be nice with views of vineyards so maybe we can spend the day around that area before arriving in Lyon. Our priorities are spending more time in the country side so we don’t need to spend time in Lyon (other than a wonderful dinner).

I am hoping you can help me with any recommendations and also where to base ourselves for the 5 nights. I want to stay at Maison du Pommard for 3 nights for sure and then I think we will like to stay somewhere else for 2 days. Possibly an AirBnB in Beaune (to save some money instead of 5 days in Maison du Pommard) or maybe closer to Dijon area. Can you recommend any towns, restaurants, places to stay based on our preferences please? Also any interesting stops along the way from Barolo for lunch maybe.

No, we're travelling from Barolo to Burgundy region so Beaune area or whatever towns come up as recommendations. We will fly out of Lyon on our last day.

We had two nights in Lyon and three night in Beaune ( La Maison des Courtines). When staying in Beaune, we did a day trip to Dijon, another day trip to the following: Flanders-sur-Ozerain, Alesia and museum, Fontenay Abbey and Semur en Auxois. Both are great and a good combination of scenic ride, history, beautiful villages and good food. We were rush in Semur, it would be nice to combine that to Autun or other small villages for another day. We came across unbelievably large amounts of winery or places for degustation but it is not our thing. We enjoy vineyard view than wine itself. We love Beaune and our stay at Courtines and wish we had more time in town.
Pomard is pretty central for what you want to do, why don't you spend four nights there and two nights in Lyon. Closer to Lyon, we missed Perouges and Cremieux.

It may be rather difficult to travel by public transport from Barolo to Beaune without passing through Lyon.
The only possibilities I see would be:
Taxi to Bra - train (dp 7.31) to Turin (ar 8.24, dp 9.00) - Flixbus to Geneva (ar 13.15, dp 14.29) - train to Bourg (change) - Macon (change) - Beaune ar 17.57.
Taxi to Bra - train (dp 9.31) to Turin (ar 10.24, dp 11.30) - Flixbus to Chambery (ar 14.50, dp 16.22) - train to Macon - bus to Bellieville - train to Beaune ar 19.57.

It cannot be excluded, however, that the railway line Turin - Chambery will reopen before May.

I loved the tiny village of Semur-en-Auxois. We stayed at a charming chambre d’hote called La Porte Guillier in the center of the village. Do not miss the chance for a meal at La Cuisine de la Fontaignotte.

Beaune has one of the three best lodgings we have ever stayed at. It still gets rave reviews.

This is the day from our trip that includes the hotel near the end. (also a very cool abbey on this day, too)

A drop off in France of a car rented in Italy may cost a lot.
