Bed bugs in Alberta?

I don't know if this is fact or fiction, but I've been told that Alberta has a large bed bug problem, specifically in Jasper. Is this true? And if so, how to deal with it.

More fiction than fact.

Certainly I think one particular hotel in Jasper did have problem a couple of years ago. Public health intervened and I think steps have long since been taken to address the problem. Beyond that Alberta (and Jasper) are no better or worse than anywhere else. I've stayed there and many other places in the province, and to my knowledge, never had any issues.

Why select such a thread title when you know that bedbugs in Brownsville wouldn't be of much interest or concern to most folks stopping in Amarillo or El Paso on their way through?

I read in the Edmonton Journal online (keep in mind this was a year ago) that Edmonton ranks in 6th place for top cities in Canada for bedbug issues. Toronto ranked first with Winnipeg and Vancouver behind them. I personally have traveled across Canada and have never had any encounter with bed bugs. I also work at a hotel in Ontario and we don't have any issues with bed bugs either.

lol.. I travel a fair amount.. various countries in europe, costa rica.. been to hawaii.. and of course have been to Vancouver ( many many times ) Edmonton and Calgary .. bed bugs can be ANYWHERE .. ( did you know a restaurant in Hawaii had an issue with them in their uhpolstered booths even.. ) .

I always check any hotel bed for them before I crawl in.. never seen any yet.. I really think you can relax on this.. lol.. goodness just check for them . And while I dont know where you live. let me assure you , there are likely bedbugs in a hotel somewhere near you ( unless of course you live in a very isolated area with no hotels. lol )

The only time I ever (resigned myself to believing) that there were bedbugs near to me, turned out to be major static in the sheets perhaps as a function of the arid climate in Whitehorse, YK.

Once I turned off the lights, the lightning show visible through the covers told a different story.

That was in Canada too.

So why narrow the area of concern to mere "Alberta" ??

Edmonton is the 6th largest city in Canada, so it stands to reason that Edmonton will rank "6th" in many categories there.

You can always check the:

Bed Bug Registry?Check Apartments and Hotels Across North America

it appears most bugs are American. We need a wall.
