As can be seen from my recent post, one of my proposed destinations in Mexico is Merida: and I am asking if anyone can recommend a decent comfortable hotel in Merida for over the Festive Season (needs airconditioning). I really would appreciate it, thanks.

Please tell us your budget as there are many price points in Merida. Will a B&B work. Will you have a car and what sorts of things are important to you.

We enjoyed our stay at Casa del Balam. However it was several years ago -- check recent reviews.

Hi guys, Casa del Balam seems expensive for the level of accommodation they offer, also one wonders if one wants to be so close to the Zocalo if the roads are so noisy, then the Casa Sacnicte may be too simple for our tastes.
I would be most appreciative of any more tips. We quite like generic hotel chains - any pointers there would also be appreciated.

Try The Fiesta Americana.
Looks like they may have reasonably priced rooms. The loacation is also good for walking. You can also get a cab or Uber anywhere.
There's also a Holiday Inn around the corner from there.

Friends stayed at Luz en Yucatan and liked it.

Hello all, just to let you know that we have booked Ibis (£66 for the 3 nights, at the present rate that's just about $66!!) - got a good deal, don't mind Ibis, they are compact rooms but well designed, good ergonomics, normally not this cheap. haha! Now need to plan and book further.

El Caribe, former 18th century monastary, now hotel one block from the main square about 75.00 per night. Swimming pool.
El Perigrino , great little place where you make your own breakfast in the open air courtyard , cheap and clean but a good walk to main square . No swimming pool.

We stayed at the Hyatt Merida - I believe it was about $90 US per day and included breakfast. It was quite nice. I'd definitely consider staying there again. The Fiesta Americana also looked nice and in the same area. Actually, the bus station for the bus to Cancun is located right at the Fiesta Americana so it's very convenient if you need to get back to Cancun to fly home.

Thank you, tom42 - so you don't have any reservations about that location, on TT someone seemed to think it's a bit far, same location more or less as the hotels you recommended. We don't mind walking and I believe one catch a bus into the zocalo?

I'm not Tom but I'll try to answer.
Looks like the main zocalo is a 33 min walk from your hotel. It's a very nice walk.
That said, you can Uber cab or bus just about anywhere.
You'll be close to Paseo Montejo which is a lovely wide walking street that's closed off on Sunday for bicycle riding.
Staying close to St Lucia, St Anna or Santiago Parques will get you a bit more centralized in the historical center. I live on the western edge of Santiago and can get to most places in centro 10 minutes.

Well I guess it depends. Like cybor said, it is near the Paseo Montejo, which is a really pretty street. But it isn't right in the historical part of Merida. Maybe that would have been a factor had we not been visiting a friend who lives in Merida and drove us around everywhere. But it seemed like it would be pretty easy to get to downtown by taxi or bus.
