Hotel / Hostel advice - Urgent

On behalf of two young people (18 and 19 yrs) leaving for their first inter-rail experience and planning to stay in Paris 2/3 days in the first days of August need your help to find a central, clean, safe and budget hotel or hostel (no more than 60 euros for a double) including, if possible, breakfast. Thanks so much.

My son and his friends just stayed at the Auberge Internationale des Jeunes www.aijparis.com for 17 euros per night. I haven't heard what they thought of it but if it had been really bad I'm sure I would have heard. The price includes breakfast, the hostel is central and there are rooms for 2,3 and 4 people. They may want to try it.

Venere.com has a couple of hotels at 60 Euros in the Opera district.....Hotel Libertel Duperre is near Sacred Heart and Hotel Goeffrey Marie is near the Folies Bergere. Seems like the first one, Libertel, gets better reviews.

is a list of hostels. In 1983 I stayed in what now is called the Hotel Richard. We were in a 5-bed same-sex "dorm," but it was more acceptable (the bathroom was, of course, coed), and very affordable way back then.

I just realized my previous response became disjointed when I started editing it! I meant to say the hostel my cousin and I stayed in was very acceptable, not more acceptable. The price certainly was right ($7.50 in 1983, including breakfast!). In any event, check out the list of hostels. Some do have double rooms, not just dorms.

An average price for a bunk in a hostel is around 30 euro these days, so as mentioned a double in a 60 euro hotel might give them slightly more ammenities and/or privacy for the same price.

You can Google "hostels Paris" for a list of websites, and/or search here on Fodor's with key words like "cheap hotels Paris" for recommended 1-star places.
