We just spent a week in T&C in July. We stayed at the Royal West Indies Resort on Grace Bay. Grace Bay is everything they said it would be and more. Gorgeous! You will have to grab a ferry if you want to get off Provo. We took a ferry over to North/Middle Caicos... rented a car and drove around both islands. Found some beautiful secluded beaches. You will need to ferry to South and Grand Turk. Google T&C and you will find tons of info about connecting to the other islands.

Unless you're on a cruise ship, everyone goes to Provo the main vacation island first.
A few end up going to Grand Turk first--
Gotta ask, Why South Caicos? There's nothing there except an international underwater biology school.
If you love to dive, South has no one to take you (a few might be able to from Grand Turk)
There are daily flights from Provo to South, and a once a week 2 hour ferry.
Only 1 place to stay, with a small restaurant
South really doesn't currently have much. There was a resort that's suppose to open a couple years ago--haven't heard much
And ruins of a huge resort that's in brankruptcy

From Provo (Providenciales) you can day trip to all of the Caicos
North and Middle require ferry and rental car
Grand Turk, Salt Cay and South (nothing there really now) require rt air (30 minutes)
A great start to get your bearings is Fodor's In Focus: Turks and Caicos, you can get it on Amazon.com

Thanks, that is what I was asking, if it is possible to take a car that we rent in Provo on to the ferry. we will want time to just enjoy Provo and relax, so with that said would you recommend 1 or 2 places you might visit as a day trip? we will want to snorkel one day.
