We shall be at Iguassu for 2nights in April and staying at the Sheraton. I know it will be hot and there will be a spray from the Falls,however, would shorts or long pants be best for protection from insects? Also, do we need bug repellant? Another question--are sneakers or sandals best for walking the trails? Thanks for your response.

We never got out of short...spray from falls gets you wet and you dry quickly. If you take the speed boat under the falls you'll get soaked. Sandal or old sneakers work. You'll be on boardwalks in the park.We were there in Feb. and never used insect repellant. Why the Sheraton???it's so damned expensive. You can get a nice room in town for 1/3rd that price.

I wore tan long cotton "jungle" pants; a long sleeve white "T-shirt"; hat; Ultrathon and sun block.
Lady "L" finished the long day on the AR side in her bathing suit.
Comfortable walking shoes are a must.

Was there in December and it was unbelievably HOT. I wore a sandal with good traction and shorts. Enjoy!

thanks for all the info. I know the Sheraton is expensive, but we wanted to be in the park so we could return to our room whenever we were tired and then go out again later. Maybe change clothes,too.

Iguazu is tropical so shorts are fine during the day. A bigger concern is shoes that are comfortable and not slippery on wet surfaces since you will walk miles on wooden, metal, dirt, or asphalt paths many of which are wet. IMO the Sheraton was worth the price for the convenience and park accessibility. It was great to be able to get into the park before the tour buses arrived and enjoy it after they left. While the park closed by the falls at 5 p.m. (last Aug.), and a park ranger escorted everyone out, there were many paths you could still enjoy. Never saw any bugs while we were there, but it was early spring.

we were in Iguazu 3/13-3/15/07 and i wore pants with legs that zipped off while my boyfriend wore swimming trunks. it was warm enough to go in shorts and a t-shirt. but since i'm magnet for mosquitos, i wore a quick-drying long sleeved top over a bikini top and used DEET, too. we wore tevas. also wore sunblock and a baseball cap. it rained on one of the days, but we dried quickly. i must say there weren't as many mosquitos in Iguazu as i expected. there were far more mosquitos outside the AEP airport and in Buenos Aires than at Iguazu when we were there.

also wanted to say that we chose to stay at the Sheraton and were happy with our choice. we stayed in a "jungle view" room (as opposed to a Falls view room). you can easily view the Falls from the Sheraton lobby, dining rooms and pool area. it was spectacular. it tickled us to read the warning on our room's balcony to keep the sliding door securely closed and to not leave children unattended on the balcony as monkeys have been known to climb in. we didn't see any monkeys during our stay though.

My husband and I will be there in October - do I understand correctly the temps will be cooler - 70's day and 50's night? Too cold for Tevas I guess, so would cross-trainers work okay on these paths?

Are mosquitos an issue at all then? Can't figure out of we'll need malaria medicine for the falls or the Salta areas in October - Thanks - Claire

There is no need for malaria meds if going to the Falls. Neither for Salta region

Didn't take any malaria medicine last Aug., nor did we see any bugs while in Aguazu or Salta region, but CDC has restricted receiving blood donations from people traveling in those areas for one year because of possible malaria exposure. As a regular blood donor, this was sad news to me especially since it was winter/spring. Salta regions outside of cities and areas near the border were the areas of concern. The beauty, charm, and culture of the area were awesome, and without hesitation I would go again. It is a beautiful part of Argentina.
