Should I change currency in the US or do it in BA?

And if in BA, do I go to a bank or do I change at the airport?

Go directly to the Banco de la Nacion Argentina - in the airport - just after you get out of the baggage pick up area.. They have an ATM there as well as a real bank that will change your money at a good rate. Do not change money at the Currency exchange booth at the airport as they give horrible rates.

I personally do not think it is worth getting Argentinian pesos in the USA as you will not get a good rate. Not that many banks will even carry them.

Thanks! Banco de la Nacion it is! Is the bank at the airport 24/7?

Si, Banco de la Nacion is 24/7. (like everything in life, maybe this will change someday, but it is accurate information as of last week).

I have been in BA for just under a month and found that the most convenient method that gives me the best rate is to use my ATM card at a HSBC ATM. To reduce transaction charges you should withdraw the maximum which I know is more than 600 pesos. When withdrawing money request an amount such as 590 so that you will have change for the dirt cheap taxis in town.
