PV - La Jolla vs. Camino Real

Hey all. Planning on heading to PV later this year and trying to decide between La Jolla de Mismaloya and Camino Real. We are late 20's and looking to stay a little bit outside the downtown area. Anyone have any comments on the above hotels (or maybe another suggestion)? Thanks a bunch!

Hi ALD,
The Camino Real is great. It's about 5 minutes by bus or taxi south of downtown. It is very sedate and private with a fantastic beach. It's definitely not a party place in case that is what you are looking for. I've stayed there 3 times and am returning in November. I'm sure someone else can fill you in on La Jolla but I can tell you that it is a lot further from town, about 15 or 20 minutes by bus or taxi.

We stayed at Camino Real in March of 2002 and we loved it. The rooms are not the newest, but the location and beach are great. Met people who stayed at La Jolla in December and they hated it. They were regulars at Camino and returned there in Dec.

May I correct my previous reply? The people we met who did not like La Jolla returned to Camino Real in MARCH 2002.

Stay at Camino Real, only a few minutes from town by taxi. La Jolla is too far away BUT I would recommend going for a visit one afternoon and having lunch or dinner at the the Night of the Iguana restaurant that is just to the south of the hotel. YOu might want to call first to make sure it is still there since that would be the main reason for going.

Only thing I didn't like about Camino Real was their somewhat narrow view to the water ... can't see to the left or right much. Otherwise, it was fine and we got a taxi for town every day, only $3 or $4. From LaJolla, it will be at least $12 or $15.
