Which beach area in Latin America

We have 2 airline tickets to use and want to go to a beach destination.
We will be leaving from ATL and want a direct flight (Delta) since we will be stand by.
Are looking for a nice, laid back place in a beachy area. Not too expensive.
Will only be gone for 3 days.
All suggestions welcomed!

The possibilities are endless.

I'd pick Rio de Janeiro as my number 1 spot.

Liberia Costa Rica is close to numerous cool, laid back, and very mellow beaches.

Puerto Vallarta Mexico could be a good choice --- especially if you head out of town towards Manzanillo, though if you stay in town, you could find laid back beachy areas too (like Yelapa, etc.)

Have fun!

Tio Gringo is referring to the area SE of PV, much of which is Costalegre.

thanks
I love the idea of Rio, but the flight is too long for 3 days--plus the parture visa is pretty steep, I believe.
How does one usually get to PV?
Like I said, we are looking for a direct (short) flight from ATL.

Suggestions for arrival into LIberia? which beach area? Want laid back, pretty beaches, a hotel with a pool (don't have to be directly on beach)
Isla Mujeres looks great! Suggestions on where to stay? Wnat basic accomodaiotns (AC and a pool))
Thanls!

I get to Puerto Vallarta by air, usually on Alaska Air or U.S. Airways (but there are other options). From Seattle sometimes there are non-stops othertime I have one transfer mid-way.
