Where 2 stay in Belize at Xmas?

Hi all. I'm going to Belize at Xmas with my friend. We're both single women in our 30s, and we're wondering what part of Belize to stay in for our trip. Belize City? One of the Cayes? If we stay in one, is it hard to go back & forth?
We're looking for beach, adventure and good night life.
Any hotel/condo suggestions would also be appreciated. Thanks!

You don't say how long you'll be there. IMO a week or less calls for one stop with day trips, 10 days and you could pick 2 or 3. Most visitors to Belize go straight to Ambergris Caye which would offer the beach and night life. There are great inland adventures, too, like hiking, caving, and Maya ruins. Let us know more about your time frame and your interests. Happy trails!

We took our kids to Belize for a week at Christmas awhile back. Spent 3 or 4 nights at Duplooys in the Cayo for the adventure (caving, canoeing, Mayan ruins), then 4 nights in Placencia for swimming and snorkeling. Liked the latter, it was beautiful, but the reef is far out. I think one of the cayes would have been a better choice. We used a travel agent who specialized in Belize to set up hotels, transfers, air, it was easy and not well-priced. But trust me, you will not want to spend any time in Belize City.

I'll be in Belize for 7 - 10 days. Thanks to everyone who's taken the time to reply!
