When to go to the Yucatán or to Puerta Vallarta

I've been planning to go to the Yucatán and Puerta Vallarta in November, but I'm now taking a class that I don't want to skip. School will have semester break from 19 December until 12 January, and I'm wondering what the weather will be like after Christmas.

I would go from Dec.27 or 28 until January 9 or 10, but I'm wondering what the weather is like during that time.

Can anyone advise me about the weather in Puerta Vallarta and the Yucatán during that time?

I have been to PV in both December and January. It was great.

I can only speak to Puerto Vallata, but the weather is typically lovely that time of year. Because of the holidays it's a very popular time, so if you do decide on PV you'll want to get a place to stay booked sooner than later. suze

Been to the Yucatan many times in mid January. It's typically great weather, low to mid 80's during the day, low 70's late at night. One time we were in Playa when they had a 'cold snap' - it got into the mid 60's in the evening, and the locals were wearing parkas!

Great time for the Yucatan. Sun is bright, water is warm. We've been there over Christmas and the weather was perfect.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll make my reservation now and plan on canceling if my health is iffy.

December/January in the Yucatan is much better than November. November can still be hurricane season. By December, you're safe.

I have been in both places in those months and have never had a problem, of course you never know. It must be said that the Pacific coast (Puerto Vallarta)is usually a couple of degrees warmer (especially at night)than the Yucatan.

In PV I don't notice a significant different in the weather comparing Nov, Dec, Jan.

Just be aware that it can be too cold to use a pool that is not heated in the Riviera Maya area in Nov., Dec, Jan. At least it is for me. Even early to mid Nov. Ocean warm, but pools get chilly.

Your Dec. dates are the highest time for rates in the Riviera Maya. From the week before Christmas through mid-January, the rates are at the highest all year.

That is actually the BEST period to be travelling to the Mexican coast. The sun will shine, blue sky and it won't be too hot (and fewer mosquitoes). I would totally recommend you to come after Christmas. I live in Playa del Carmen (Mexican Caribbean) and LOVE December and January here
