Venezuela

Hi! We are a young couple planning on going to Venezuela in mid-March. Unfortunately, we only have about a week -- does anyone have a suggested itinery of places we 'must see'? Also, does anyone have a suggestion for a good tour operator? Thanks!

Concerned about the information regarding airport taxi availability and time schedule for the taxi booth, I have called ANFITRIONES DE VENEZUELA, which is the association that has integrated four (4) taxi lines at the airport. The toll free phone number for them is 0800-829-4800.

The taxi lines they have integrated are called TAXI TOURS, ASTRALA, PASIB and AUTAX. They provide 24 hour service at the airport and they are very adamant that they are open 24 hours.

Their taxi cabs are identified with the ANFITRIONES DE VENEZUELA yellow oval sign on the door. They have mainly black Explorers, although they also have other smaller type cars.

If you call by phone, give a brief description of your group so they can identify you, and they will be there to pick you up in 5 mins.

Best regards
Ana

Los Roques is very beautiful. They are a group of keys with small "posadas" (hotels). There are place you can even pick your own lobster and have it grilled or prepared as you wish. The snorkling is incredible and the beaches a pristine blue. Ecursions depart from Maiquetía airport (Caracas)

The Los Andes region - Mérida, Boconó, Trujillo, Apartaderos, Los Nevados, etc. - is quaint and picturesque. Cool (sometimes VERY cold) and fresh climate. The Pico Bolivar (tallest mountain in Venezuela) has a lift, and you can enjoy beautiful scenery. If you get lucky it will be topped with snow.

We have the Angel Falls in Canaima, breathtaking... The flat top mountains are gorgeous. As a venezuelan, I am very proud to say that compared to similar natural marvels, Canaima, surpasses anyone's expectations. You can take excurssions from Margarita Island. I recommend a 2 day excursion - 1 day Canaima to the falls and the El Sapo falls - with a sleep over at Arecuna, atop a hill with the view of the Caroni river - next day trip to the Yanomami Indian reserve. The beauty of the trip increases if you go in the rainy season when the rivers are full and the falls at their best.

Margarita Island.
Choroní.
Morrocoy national park.

All these are beaches.
