Snorkelling honeymoon - where should we go??

I'm trying to decide where to go for my honeymoon which will be over new year, so weather is risky, and I really want somewhere HOT where I can swim and most importantly have really great snorkelling right off the beach. I don't want to have to take a boat to go snorkelling.
Am I looking in the right part of the world? If so, where would be the best place for tranquility & romance, yet not too many honeymooners, kids or tourists, great sandy beaches, really nice accommodation but not at over-the-top prices, plus other things to do - ie a lively safe town, nature etc.
Any help much appreciated!
Jo

Dozens of spots in the Caribbean including Carib side of Mexico, Grand Cayman, St Martin. St Thomas has a great spots off the beach. ST Croix has marvelous underwater national park but a boat trip is necessary. West coast of Mexico is just So So. PV has a nice little spot at Conchas Chinos with a postage stamp size beach with good snorkeling off the beach. Zihuatanejo has a couple of decent spots but do require a short (5 Minutes) boat ride.

Akumal. You can snorkel off the beach, or in Yal-Ku lagoon. Akumal is quiet, with beautiful beaches and some nice restaurants.Check out the locogringo website.

We love to snorkel and the best snorkeling we have found is on the Great Barrier Reef and Bonaire. Belize was also quite good, but you have to take a boat out to the good snorkeling spots. Bonaire was absolutley wonderful. Clear water and lots of fish.

Don't leave out Cozumel. You'll have to look up several sites to see the condition of the south side of the island (after hurricane). I would imagine the pristine beaches are still there.
