Snorkeling from hotel beach
My husband and I travel to Mexico once a year. We love the Huatulco area as it is not very commercialized and very beautiful. The only thing missing is that "good" snorkeling is not available from the resort area...it IS available a 20-minute cab ride away. Question: Can anyone recommend a location in QUIET place in Mexico in which good snorkeling is available right from the beach at the hotel? Any information such as location, hotel name, etc. is appreciated.

Hi Grace,
Definitely Presidente Intercontintal in Cozumel. This was our 10th year of staying at the hotel.
You can't find better snorkeling/diving
anywhere in Mexico, and the beach there is gorgeous too.
Hotel is right on the water, and they have ladders directly onto the reef from the beach. Lots to do and see, and some of the friendliest people on earth.

Grace,
Also would suggest Playa del Carmen and Akumal. (Akumal is very quiet and laid back, and has better snorkeling.)
Neither they nor Cozumel have what I would call a lot of commercialization, but Cozumel does get cruise ships, and downtown San Miguel is crazy when they are in. But there's a lot to do and see away from town.

You may be interested in visiting the web site for Casa Tropical below. We have a beachfront villa with 2 rental units, on a private 1/2 acre in Tankah, one hour drive south of the Cancun airport. You will find an underwater photo on our site, taken while snorkeling right out in front of our villa. We also have a wonderful cenote just a walk up the beach from our property. You will find a link for a photo of the Tankah Cenote below.

Our villa's great location is within driving distance to many places of interest... Playa del Carmen (you take the boat to Cozumel from there) Xel-ha, Tulum and Coba ruins, and the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve starts just south of the Tulum ruins. We have wonderful cenotes to swim, snorkel or dive in and the beaches are great. Our area is still very serene and beautiful, but an easy drive to restaurants and other places of interest.

Hidden Worlds snorkel & dive tours of cenotes
http://hiddenworlds.com.mx/

Aktun Chen
www.aktunchen.com

Maps of Riviera Maya Can-do Maps
http://WWW.cancunmap.com/

Check out this web site for tours lead by the Friends of Sian Ka'an group. It is a non-profit organization and tour guides are usually biologists. Very informative tours lead by a very worthwhile organization.
Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve
http://www.cancun.com/siankaan/

photo of tankah's cenote'
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian/issues98/apr98/diver_jpg.html

Please feel free to call or email with any questions you may have about the Tankah/Tulum area of Mexico.

Best regards,

Carole
Casa Tropical

http://CasaTropical.com
Photo Album of Casa Tropical
http://community.webshots.com/album/21853140fZQuralFFw
