We have never been diving before...let alone been to Mexico...there is so much information out there...but to be honest with you...I would rather talk to people who have been there like you, than to read info in books...because that way I get better feedback of what you really thought of it

OK.
If you haven't been diving before, you'll probably want to get certified before you leave as you can't dive unless you're certified.
If you don't have time to do that, you can:
1.) Take a cab to Chankanaab where you can do some great snorkeling right off the shore and spend the day relaxing on a great beach.
2.) Do a resort course at your hotel and a reef dive on Cozumel.
The shopping in downtown San Miguel on Cozumel is very good.
My favorite is Los Cinco Soles. I could spend the whole day there...

Ryana: I have to concur with Nancy's last post regarding snorkeling @ Chankanaab and my favorite store in San Miguel is Los Cinco Soles. We also rented a jeep for the day to stop at a few of the smaller beaches circling the island-we thought it was the $$$ to do this.
