sea lice in Costa Rica-

Is sea lice a problem at the beaches in Costa Rica? We are going to Playa Hermosa in Guancaste and Manuel Antonio. Do I need to buy the Safe sea lotion?

I was there a few months ago, swam in the ocean for 2 days, and I have no idea what you are talking about.

There are no problems with the ocean there.

Sea Lice ???
I'd never heard of this and so, ran a google search .... http://www.fau.edu/safe/sea-lice.html

Apparently this is an issue in warm waters during summer months. Can be found in Florida waters as well as Mexico. Who knew? Sea lice .... eek!

They're actually baby jelly fish. Sea Safe contains Formeldehyde, I think I'd rather itch.

We were in Playa Grande in Feb & had a problem with sea lice for a few days. Nothing too horrible. Keep in mind they tend to be attracted to skin covered by a bathing suit (not so much the fabric of board shorts). My daughter was wearing a 1 piece & her belly was all bitten up but my sons had less of a problem. After a little hydrocortisone cream the bites went away.

Very interesting information. Never have heard of this in my 61 years having lived in Puerto Rico and now living on the East Coast. Good to know about and believe it or not I am in the process of planning a trip to Playa Grande in December. Better take the caladryl.
