My partner and I are going to Rio at Xmas and we were supposed to fly directly into Rio on Delta from ATL. Now it appears that Delta is ending service to Rio beginning Dec 1 but will continue flying to Sao Paulo so I wanted to know if it be worth it to spend one day/night in Sao Paulo? Any suggestions? <BR><BR>Also, what is the cheapest way to purchase airline tickets to/from Sao Paulo to Rio?<BR><BR>Thanks!!

Why don't you get your money back from Delta if they don't go to Rio anymore? I don't know what kind of ticket you have but I believe that if they stop service to your destination you are entitled to get your money back. Then rebook on another airline that goes to Rio like Continental. My Continental flight stops in Sa Paoul and then on to Rio. It only stops for 1 hour in Sao Paulo. I don't know if its worth any time to stay in Sao Paulo for 1 night.

Hi <BR><BR>I am a frequent flyer to brazil will be there next month and i fly into sao Paulo.I have family that lives there in my opinion this is a very ndustrialized city and not a pretty city and for one day your not going to see much considering that this city is three times bigger then NY (Giant). You can go on the internet and purchase a ticket from Sao Paulo to Rio or when you get there you can buy one also they leave every half an hour it is about $90.00Us or take a bus it is about $30.00 US but it is a 3 hour ride. Don,<BR><BR>Delta just announced on Friday that they aren't going to fly to Rio starting Dec 1. They haven't worked out the logistics yet for people ticketed and since I am using frequent flier miles I am not so sure that they are going to book me on another carrier. If they don't at least I can get to Sao Paulo on Delta. Thanks for the tip about Continental...when they contact me this week I am going to make that request.

George, if your using frequent flyer miles I don't think they will move you to another airline. I guess then your best bet is to go to Sao Paulo and either hop on a bus for $30 or take a local airline for the $90. But as the other poster stated Sao Paulo may not be the type of place to stay just for that one day. Just keep moving and get to Rio ASAP.

<BR>You might want to continue on to Iguassu Falls - only an hours flight away from Sao Paulo. Spend a night or two and then fly to Rio. The falls are a spectacular way to begin your Brazilian adventure.

Depends on what you are looking for, but Sao Paulo has some nice art museums, a park. nice zoo. Can arrange a private english speaking tour - driver and guide for 3-4 hours for around $75 if interested. Probably through one of the larger hotels.

Hi,<BR>I am an American married to a Brazilian and living in Sao Paulo. First, all US airlines have cut back on their flights to Brazil so I am not surprised to here that the Delta flight is not continuing on to Rio. There are trillions of flights from SP to Rio so no problem there. Your travel agent or Delta can book this ticket for you, it will cost about US $180 round. When you return from Rio to SP, if you decide to spend time in SP, you will want to fly from the local airport in Rio (Santos Dumont) to the local airport in SP (Congonhas). Like the difference between LaGuardia and JFK in terms of distance from the city. Anyway, re SP, yes, one day is pretty short and this city is like LA, without a native it is pretty tough to find out where you are going. If you are determined to stay in Sao Paulo try the hotel Renaissance and they can set you up with a tour. From there you can walk the main shopping areas and try a nice restaurant. Otherwise just use SP as a jumping off point for flights to Rio, in which case you will only use the international airport, where your flight from Atlanta will be arriving.
