We liked the local place right on the beach about half way between the center of the town and Hotel Capitan Suizo. It is called El Pescador and serves mostly fish dishes prepared the typical Costa Rican way. Their ceviche was very good. It is super casual with crabs and stray dogs wondering around ;-). They don't take credit cards.
We also liked Stella's for Italian food if you are in a mood for a change from rice and beans.
The restaurant at Hotel Capitan Suizo was very nice too, they have live entertainment on some nights.
We also tried a couple of other places for pizza but I can't remember their names - they were not our favorites anyway.

Hola Ed,
I will give you a list of restaurants in order of great food. We have been twice to Tamarindo and enjoy these the mostand we are gourmet cooks. Most are on the dirt road.
1. Pachangas - very gourmet, delightful
worth it! could have eaten there every nite, owner Wonderful -
2, Lazy Wave - very good food;excellent service - outside.
3. Iguana --fun and great fish dishes;great drinks
4. Stellas - not our favorite, overly recommended but service wasn't great - food alright. pricey.(others are better)
5. Nogui's - right on the beach - the best beakfast anywhere. Can't compare the fruit drinks, omelettes etc. to anywhere. Place right near it serves fresh caught fish for dinner very cheap. Bring your own wine.
6. Captain Suezo - great bar. Will meet lots of Americans there. Haven't eaten there
7. Theres an american bar/restaurant next to Lazy Wave but I can't remember the name. We spent the last 4th of July there - had a great time - drinks and barbecue are good. Great Party - met lots of Californians there - we are from Connecticut.
Stop at any decent looking Soda for breakfast or lunch - we have had very good luck with them. Very reasonable.
Hope this is helpful. Feel free to ask me anything.
Marilynn
6. Best Western Bar - Best Hamburgers and Margaritas around.
4.
Thanks, Iza and Marilyn.

We'll be sure to check these
restuarants out.

We'll be staying at Barcelo again,
after flying into SJ from Boston,
and the buffet can get old after a while.

Went to Lazy Wave last year. It was
very good, and a fun atmosphere, except
for the stuffy family that didn't look
kindly on us patting some local dogs
who were visiting that night! Oh, well...to each his own!

Thanks, again!

Tamarindo has an wide variety of restaurants to choose from. The most popular ones are Stella and Geckos. Las Palmas is a nice choice being right on the beach. Capitan Suizo has a BBQ/dance show on Saturdays (reserve in advance). Nogui's has the best casados in Tamarindo. I would be careful with the Pescador though, there are several people who ended up with salmonela after eating there.
