Renting a car...
Can someone comment on this plan and see if it will work...
Landing at SJO at 10:30 pm and I am going to make a reservation at the Hampton Inn by the airport. They have a free shuttle and I called the hotel and it runs 24/7. My idea is to take the shuttle to the hotel at night and then rent the car the next morning before heading out to the Arenal area. I figured we should be bright eyed and bushy tailed and have daylight to inspect the car based on other reports I have read.
So at this point do we take the shuttle back to the airport to pick up a car and do the agencies deliver cars, or is there something we can walk to (we could leave the luggage at the hotel and go back with the car to get it) ??
Thanks!!

I was booking the room and saw this ...
"Rate Type:
Airport Tax Included
Stay 1 or more nights at the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton San Jose Airport and get your departure tax free! Also enjoy our hotel's many amenities and services, including: Free International Calls and 24 Hour Airport Shuttle. You need to provide your passport in order to get the airport tax receipt. This offer applies for a max of 4 people per guestroom."
Its an additional $62. There are 4 of us. Is that gong to save us time or $$???

I suspect that you will be able to pay for the departure tax at the same rate that you would payat the airport, without being charged an additional commission by the hotel. Or are you sayiing you pay an additional 62$ to get something free? You are more likely to get an accurate clarification from the hotel.
We have never stood in line for more than 60 seconds to pay the departure tax. Others have had longer waits. You need to call the hotel.

The departure tax is $26 per person so whether this $62 is a good deal depends on how many people in your party. If staying at the hotel, the shuttle is free -- not sure about phone calls.
Agree with kinkazote - paying the departure tax is very easy and quick.
