I think hurricane season is June through November; our trip was impacted by Tropical Storm Agatha last June. Historically the bigger storms are later in the season. We travel to Central America (and last June Mexico) every summer and our trip have rarely been impacted and never spoiled by storms. You can keep track here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

I stay in Playa every year June - July. It is hot and humid. Hurricane season runs from June - Nov. I have also been there at the end of Nov and like it in the summer for the warmer temp of the pool since they are not heated..June is low season and July starts high season again as the Mexican nationals and folks from Europe take their summer vacations. It does get crowded in July but not usually until after the first week.
I redid my kitchen there the first week of July last year and it was hot but not unbearably so. I usually have a harder time the later in the month it gets. There has been very, very little rain in the area since January and it's very dry. I'll be heading there myself next week for the summer and can't wait. I am not going to mention the H word as we've been quiet there for the past several years and I would like it to stay that way : )

We prefer the first two weeks of November or the first 2 weeks of December. The weather is much cooler, low crowds and less expensive. The downfall though is the pools are sometimes to cold to swim in, but the ocean temps are fine.
We were married in a July and hardly ever go anywhere on our anniversary because it's too hot and humid. It's the humidity that's really bad.
Another option is the 2nd or 3rd week of May. Not as hot, still low crowds and less expensive. Pools temps are fine.

I've been to Playa in July and in November, and actually prefer July. It is HOT, but I expect HOT when I go to a beachy destination. The breezes off the ocean help a lot, it's more unbearable if you are inland doing excursions, etc. In November it was too cold to go in pools (most aren't heated) and at night we were pretty chilly and needed sweatshirts. Also I've always had less rain when traveling there in the summer months, we had quite a bit of rain in November.

I just got back last night from a week in PDC. I have actually been there 4 times since mid-April as I bought a condo and am just closing on it. I am going again next wk. for another wk.
It is hot, but not unbearably so, and I am impacted by heat (post-menopausal so I am hot all the time even when it is cold, and I take blood pressure meds that also make me sensitive to heat). I was out walking all day, but it was easier to be on or near the beach (within one block) to get the breeze during the day. Once you are a few blocks off the beach, it is of course MUCH hotter, so where you stay makes a BIG difference IMO.
I wore a big hat and used a lot of sunscreen and drank water literally constantly to replenish what I was sweating out. And I showered a couple of times a day, as yes, I was sweatly constantly.
Some nights it cooled off nicely. A few other nights it stayed hot. I ducked into places that had AC frequently. Make sure your hotel has good AC and preferably ceiling fan also. And chug water along w/whatever else you drink. Take cabs if you have to go far.

Hi emd3! Welcome to the neighborhood! We've been in Playa five years and are at 20th and 20th. I'll be in town on Friday for a five weeks. I walk past your place daily : ) It's very nice there. Definitely, let's meet. How about the restaurant next to DAC's, Nativo, La Fragata, Mamitas or Kool as some options? Let me know what time and I'll walk over.
