Nazca Lines
I will be going to Peru Oct. 24 for 11 days. I am going on a tour with Overseas Adventure Travel [OAT]. Has anyone taken a flight over the Nazcz Lines. OAT has an option for $360.00 and must be booked 45 days before departure, which is getting pretty close. Is this really worth the price? Does anyone know how big the plane is and if everyone on the plane has a good view of the lines. Thanks in advance, I appreciate any input anyone has.

In 1999, at the end of an Amazon-MP trip with International Expeditions, my wife and I stayed another 2 days in Lima to go to the Nazca lines. We made reservations for the trip the night before in our hotel.
We took an early small jet (about 12 pass) flight to Ica, then a 6 pass prop plane flight over the lines. The plane flew over the lines for about 30 minutes, first showing each "line" and figure to one side, then circling back to show it to the other. I saw it all, but my wife got the stomach willies quickly, and saw just a few. Then a bus took us to the museum in Ica, and a resort. Both were remarkably interesting.
We paid, as I remember, about $900.00 each, and we felt it was well worth it, because we love history and archeology. I felt truly priviledged to see this wonder of the ancient world.
Whether you will feel it is worth it, I din't know. I am sure many people would not appreciate it.
I just checked with OAT, and the itinerary is the same. Since the price is so much less than ours (maybe we were literally 'taken for a ride'), I would say that you should go for it.

Some of y'all must be made of money. $900 to see Nazca. Wow!
I think what carapulca is tryin' to tell y'all is that there is an inexpensive option, and that is to take a bus or van down to Ica (Paracas) and hop on one of the small Cessnas which do 70-minute fly-over flights for about US$50.
How do you find out about those? Well, there are probably tour operators leaving out of Lima early in the morning with van service to Paracas.
You could also do a web search to see if you can't find some of the Cessna operators. I've got a couple brochures here that I picked up in Lima a couple months ago, one for Aeroparacas (phone 511-271-6941, email [email protected]), the other for Aero Ica (phone in Lima 511-445-0859, email [email protected] or [email protected])
Have fun!
