Nasca Lines worth seeing?

I only recently learned about the Nasca lines in Peru. Fascinating! How to go about seeing them? How many days does it take? Worth doing it? Maybe I can drop something else from my itinerary to fit this in.

Please advise. Thanks!

My wife and I went to see the Nazca lines in 1999. We thought it was great, and a privilege only few have had. If you love history, mystery, and archeology, it is a must.

We left Lima early one morning on a small jet, took ?1 hr to Ica. Then a small prop plane over the lines, with viewing time of about 20 minutes. The plane banked right and left so both sides could see the lines. My wife got queezy, and missed a few. If your tummy tends to get queezy, take something for that. As for the safety of the planes, well, we take chances every day.

Then we had a bus tour of Ica, which was very good for the museum and resort. We did not go swimming.

I strongly recommend it as a memorable experience. I don't know how much it costs now, but we overpaid. It was arranged the day before in our hotel in Lima.

You could also take a bus to Ica, but that is a long trip.

Has anyone taken the night bus from Nazca to Cusco? I read in Lonely Planet that it isnt safe to go on the night buses because of robberies. We really want to see the Nazca lines but the plane ride tour from Lima is expensive and when you have 4 people in the party it adds up. Does anyone know what time in the morning the bus goes from Lima to Nazca and also what time it goes back from Nazca to Lima? I was thinking we could go back to Lima and then fly to Cusco. Just dont know what time the bus would leave from Nazca to Lima.
