Have you already booked the hotel? If you are committed, these comments really don't help/matter...

There are soooo many great choices in Puerto Vallarta from $20/nite simple rooms to mid-range nice family-run places, to 4/5 star resort hotels. And I'm afraid Mismaloya is not the top of anybody's list.

South of town (Camino Real), in town on the Playa Los Muertos (Tropicana, Playa Los Arcos), in town (Rosita, Buenaventura), in the Marina (Casa Magna Marriott, etc.), and north out in Nuevo Vallarta (don't know the specific places but there are plenty).

Stayed here in the begining of March 2002. Yes the pools are great but there was no beach since it had been wiped out by a hurricane. We were all - inclusive and I am not sure the hotel really knew how to run an AI. The hotel resently lost it's highly touted "leading hotels of the world" status, which should tell you something. We too were "sold" on the pretty pictures on the web and through brochures. Sorry to imform you that it wasn't by far one of the best places I've stayed!

A must is to dine at the sets of the night of the iguna, we loved it up there. PV is a nice town with great shops and dinning. The airport is very small and crowded. You should ship breakable items home with insurance. we learned the hard way.

I stayed there about 14 months ago. It was a great hotel. Beautiful beach. Decent food. Great/cheap little palapa resturants on the beach. Hopefully the hurricane didn't wipe out the beach too much, but it is on a little cove which makes it feel very secluded. Have fun and don't worry about it slipping. If it slipped slightly from when I was there then it would still be great.
It's my understanding that the beach situation was caused by some kind of geological catastrophe under the water, which basically caused the beach to just fall off into the water. PV does not get hurricanes directly; maybe just some residual rain and rougher water. When we were in PV earlier this year, we went by to see what the beach looked like and they still have a narrow strip left. It's not what it use to be, but is still pretty.
